IH Porto joined the International House World Organisation in 1996 and, in March of 2008, became a member of the AEP (Associação Empresarial Portuguesa), the Portuguese Business Association, as well as of the Associação PME Portugal, the Small and Medium Enterprise Association of Portugal. More recently, on October 1st 2009, IH Porto became a member of the British-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (Câmara de Comércio Luso-Britânica).

There are two schools both situated in attractive suburbs Porto within easy reach of beach cafés and restaurants.

The other branch school, 5 kilometres further up the coast is situated in the charming old part of Leça da Palmeira, once home to a host of English families in the early part of the century. The school bustles with the energy and noise of 200 students and a staff of 7. The Manager, Susana Nascimento has been with the school since IH Porto affiliated to IHWO.

In total there are 20 teachers working predominantly in the area of English but we do also serve a lot of contracts externally with Spanish, French, German and Italian training programmes.

In total, the in-house population of both schools is about 350 with another 200 being taught off-site.
IH Porto is a small school but a happy one, and for many newly qualified teachers is a good place to start from.

Teacher training sessions for all staff are a regular fixture on Fridays, and frequently staff participate in IH Portugal symposia and at APPI ( Association of English Language teachers in Portugal) often as main presenters or workshop leaders.

IH Portugal schools place great importance on taking care of their teachers to ensure that they become steadily more proficient in their skills and thereby raise standards of language teaching in the community.
